The fourth grassrootsgathering (gg4) took place in Limerick
from the 15th to 17th March 2003. Below is what was sent around advertising
the event. Scroll further down for an account of what went on.
Discussion, debate and practical development of community,environmental and
global justice activism
The fourth grass roots gathering will be taking place in limerickthis weekend
at locus. we will be meeting at 9pm on friday night towork out the agenda and
timetable for the weekend. workshops and discussions will start on saturday
and sunday mornings at 10am and monday will be Patricks day for peace in limerick
so bring your costumes.
there will be two main themes to this gathering:
- civil disobedience, direct action and non-violence - purposes, objectives
and methods;
- organising and coordinating decentralised networks locally, nationally and
internationally.
there will also be a diversity of other workshops covering community, environmental
and global justice activism.
bring your sleeping bags, warm clothes, food donations (ask in your local healthfood
store or market) and any interesting reading materials you'd like to share.
a phone number will be made public that you can ring on friday to find out the
location of locus.

- Workshops / Timetable:

- List of Workshops needs to be broken down into time table. As well as the
workshops there are several areas which need to be dealt with:
- G.N.A.W. (purposes and methods as possible areas of discussion; also
effectiveness of focus on shannon)
- Co-ordinating and Decision Making (delegate system, consensus, feedback
mechanisms, public debate, internet)
- grassroots gathering (future direction, regional/local gatherings,
campaigns?, network?)

- A lot of the workshops suggested will be part of these discussions, others
will take place in parallel.

- Friday: 9PM? opening meeting: circle/small group/forum?, discuss and adapt
timetable and agenda, areas of discussion; Suggest additions, deal with issues
arising.

- 3PM workshop time (including workshops of short duration and small
discussion groups;
- 6.45PM {begining of dinner} workshops of short duration and small
discussion groups;
- 7.45PM evening metting: circle?, timetable, agenda, issues arising,
feedback and discussion of day, proposals for consideration;
- 9PM song and dance.
